Our Curriculum
After years of aiming to “meet and exceed” the Ontario curriculum, the SCA curriculum committee ultimately deemed it necessary to establish its own set of benchmarks. SCA’s mandate as an independent school is to consistently exceed, not just to meet, the Ontario curriculum standards in every area. We are proud to be helping shape tomorrow’s leaders and our approach is designed to provide each and every student with the moral, social, and academic advantages they will require as leaders of their generation.
Pre-school
Our Early Learning Centre (ELC) is a preferred childcare centre in the New Sudbury area, including infant, toddler, preschool, and school aged programs. Current ELC families also receive preferred access to our kindergarten program!
Elementary
Our acclaimed elementary program is one of Sudbury’s hidden gems – a welcoming environment with small classes, engaging lessons, exciting extracurricular opportunities, community outreach events, and high academic achievement.
Language
Our Language curriculum takes a more classical approach to literacy, focusing primarily on reading and writing in a range of forms, genres, and intended audiences.
Mathematics
Our Mathematics curriculum utilizes Singapore Math resources to uphold a fundamentally strong program rich in rote learning and practical application, consistently testing years ahead of grade level.
Science
Our Science curriculum aligns with the provincial curriculum objectives, but goes much deeper into natural and physical processes to better inform students’ scientific inquiry.
Financial Assistance
SCA offers several scholarships to reward strong character and academic achievement, and bursaries based on financial need..
Financial Need Bursary
All current and prospective students may apply for financial assistance in accordance with their families’ overall financial picture as assessed by third party Financial Assistance School Tuition (FAST) assessment.
Lougheed Foundation Bursary
The Lougheed Foundation has generously funded a bursary program to provide tuition assistance to low-income families, putting a quality SCA education within reach of any Sudbury-area family.
Recruitment Incentive
The recruitment incentive bursary has been discontinued effective 2023.
